Healing our prisons and those in them

This is a VOLUNTEER OPPORTUNITY.

Opportunity overview:

We have a dedicated and loyal following of people visiting our website. And some of those people have expressed interest in doing volunteer work with troubled youth, or with people presently incarcerated as well as those formerly incarcerated. To help meet this need we are now interviewing people who are comfortable doing online research.  You’d be responsible for identifying volunteer opportunities throughout various counties in the state in order to build a “directory” that covers the areas of, 1) “at risk” youth programs, 2) educating inmates in county jails, and 3) reentry programs for inmates coming back to society.

We are also looking to further develop our own base of volunteers for Light in Prison directly, and you would be helping to build and coordinate this team.

Your time commitment:

12-16 hours per month.

Your responsibilities would include:

  • Online Research to find good local or regional organizations who need volunteers, using databases such as VolunteerMatch.org or Idealist.org.  You’d be responsible for finding 3-4 specific opportunities per week.
  • Publishing specific needs / opportunities to our own site’s Volunteer Opportunities board.
  • Preparing monthly summary of best / most interesting opportunities to share with our email list (over 500 subscribers currently).
  • Help build our own volunteer program.
